Black Bear Moon - Woman

Commission for Client.
Client requested an idea with a black bear and fish. As the image started to emerge, I opted to change the concept and push it a little further. As I wrote to him:

The idea of creating a symbiosis between the fish, bear, and moon element stems from the natural connections and symbolism of the three. Cyclical natures of Bears and Salmon are dictated by the seasons which is symbolized by the moon [traditionally we used a lunar calendar system]. Of course, both animals are dependent on one another, so the obvious ecologic one is there. Culturally, all three symbols are feminine primarily. The Bear is the symbol for motherhood, and is the female symbol that protects the men [we women have the masculine symbol watch over us], the Salmon is associated with fertility, and the moon is interchangeable with the woman's cycle.
It is to note that Water and the color blue represent the Woman- as their connection to water is evident from birth.

In our cultures, we find that the best guardian for men is all that encompasses femininity, and the best guardian for women is all that that encompasses masculinity- and in that, we have a a consistent connection to support one another in harmony.

I plan to make a version supporting the Masculine figures after I finish with my fund raising.
