This is a commissioned piece for a community member, whose last name is "Jabakwoam" (Ojibway).
He wanted an illustration of the meaning of that name, along with his clan symbol.
"Jabakwoam" (annunciated Jza-mb-bahck-woagh-am) has no direct translation in English. It’s a compound of two words- the first meaning "Coming in/coming from there/approaching from another place" and the second "The gathering of the storm and thunder and lighting clouds".
Even that explanation does not do the concept justice, I think. It’s hard to translate abstract concepts that don’t exist in other languages.
