The only thing i want to do here is apologise for the LOUSY scan! For some reason, my scanner leaves these "streaks" on selective images, and i don't even know WHY!
Also, the real image is done that way that Haku "glows" when you view him from different angles on the paper... gives it a very "mysticle" kinda feel to it... alas, again, my scanner could not do that.
Lousy piece of turd.
anyhow, it's Haku from "Spirited away"... it's actually a gift for my sister. She loves him SO much.
Done on color mayfair with pencil.
P.S. Another reason for the lousy scan is that the image is well larger than the scan face, so i had to scan 4 different parts and "stick" it together.
hey, i feel for ya on the scanner issue. mine really sucks too. but, nonetheless, this drawing looks really good! keep up the good work. (i love dragons!)
Yeah I have a pretty bad scanner myself. Thats usually why I perfer not to scan them raw and instead "cyber" color them. I can't usually get away with coloring them normally since the scan doesn't pick them up very well. You of course fare far better then I do.
I can only assume the "streaks" might have something to do with the paper since you seem to draw alot on bumpy paper? I recall using paper similar to that in highschool as it was good for watercolored pictures. Scanners unfortunetly see EVERYTHING so they'll often pick up on the small details that you wouldn't normally notice.
That is a very lovely picture tho. The coloring style is very pleasent. The dragon is dead on with the one seen in the movie. In fact the render does the anime one a great justice.
I actually saw that movie in the theatre and recall that dragon being the one who got 1001 papercuts from bad paperdolls. Ouch!

Oh, that is so cool! You captured Haku beautifully! The pose you gave him really recalls the way he flies in the movie-- right down to the whiskers. I love 'Spirited Away' like a fanatic. Ghibli Studios rocks.
Maybe the streak problem is related to the scan resolution? I'm just pullin' this outta my kaboose, but maybe color pencil on certain kinds of textured paper has an effect similar to what happens when you scan magazine pages at resolutions incompatible with the printed quality. So maybe it's a matter of trying different scan resolutions until you find one that minimizes the streaks.
