About two years ago, I set out to make myself a deck of Medicine Cards. I didn't want to buy a ready-made deck, becuase those are mostly New Age, poorly illustrated, and have cliche "Noble Savage" imagery on them (along with animals who shouldn't even BE in the deck, and then missing some others that SHOULD).
Never the less, I needed to make a deck that was designed to fit my needs, and communicate to me.

I started on these way back then. Nearly half way through the deck (after a year passed), it was put on hold. When returning to the deck, I was still satisfied with the atmosphere- however the designs were poor. This were some of my first images done in the North West Pacific style, and some of them lacked in the genuine style.
Also, they were done by traditionally sketching out the image, but then vectoring it on the computer- and if anything, I'm more of an advocate of traditional methods. And as I said before, if the deck was going to reflect myself- I wanted it to have that traditional feel.

So I decided at least not to waste these, and show everyone not only my gradual escalation in the quality of the work and style, but also the way I see this land I live on.

I was once told that I should design a "genuine" Medicine Card deck. I know what animlas are SUPPOSED to be in there, and I have the style to execute it. But I had to turn the idea down. I cannot- for ANY reason- think that I would make a deck that would be read at the hands of someone who got into "shamanisim" (conniptions and convulsions, eye-roll foaming at mouth) and wanted to "read cards" like every person does at the age of 16. Never the less, having the cards read by someone who has NO clue to what the animlas represent, what are their roles, and what are their messages and what stories and pacts were made with them is something I consider quite the sin.
So even thought I can "Make a ton of money" on them, I would/am NOT going to do so.

Mind you, my new deck is in the process. FAR more clarity I'm getting from it. Hopefully, it will be ready soon so I can give readings to people who need them.
